Tentative definition: Space Opera is "Science Fiction", where science doesn't play any direct role in the plot or character development.

Space Fantasy: Space Fantasy is "Science Fiction" where the (new, fictional) science isn't explained in any plausable way.

Space Fantasy and Space Opera are not mutually exclusive.
